Thanks to
my friend Jeanne Nidorf from San Francisco, who is a committed partner of The
Turkish Women’s Initiative together with Sema Basol, I had the pleasure of meeting Anna Sofaer (the founder
of Solstice Project, a non-profit organization
dedicated to the study of the rich astronomical heritage of the ancient Chaco
culture of the American Southwest) and Mike Pertschuk (a prominent name in public health advocacy and
former government official) as well as Judith Williams (board member of the League of Women
Voters of New Mexico among several other NGOs & community related organizations)
and Elliot J. Stern (the founder
of SolarLogic, a renewable energy hydronic heating expert). The words are not enough to express their modest and generous
personalities, to even summarize their achievements in activism and in the
professional fields that they worked for decades. Delicious food,
accompanied by several anecdotes back and forth, and decorative adobe houses which reflect
their love of travelling… I had some unforgettable moments such as finding several films
by Zeki Demirkubuz in Judy & Elliot’s film archive! Thank you Mike for
finding me the book Mystic Healers and Medicine Shows (by Gene Fowler). Thanks
for taking my dreams and imaginary characters seriously!
